Welcome to Books By My Friends, Tammy! Wow, you have an exciting medical thriller novel to share with readers. It just released Jan. 3!
Let’s begin.
JH: What’s the blurb for your book Misfire?
TE: Dr. Kate Downey returns in this heart-stopping thriller. The misfire of a Kadence, a new type of implanted defibrillator, causes the heart rhythm problem it’s meant to correct. She resuscitates the patient but is concerned for her beloved great-Aunt Irm, who recently received one of the life-saving devices. When a second device misfires, Kate turns to Nikki Yarborough, her friend and Aunt Irm’s cardiologist. Though Nikki helps protect Kate’s aunt, she is prevented from alerting other patients by her chairman. As the inventor of the device, and part owner of MDI, the company he formed to commercialize it, his claim of a soon-to-be-corrected software bug rings false. When Christian O’Donnell comes to town to complete the sale of MDI, and the misfires continue, Kate and Nikki are drawn into a race to find the source. But threats to Nikki and a mysterious murder complicate progress. Are the seemingly random shocks misfires or attacks? Kate will stop at nothing to protect her aunt and the other patients whose life-saving devices could turn on them at any moment.
JH: What inspired you to write Misfire?
TE: Though a physician by training, engineering runs in my blood, and my house. My husband and 2/3 of my children are engineers. With abundant opportunities for intellectual cross-pollination, I’ve been fortunate to participate in several projects to develop medical devices, including patents and the whole FDA approval nightmare…I mean entirely reasonable process. This background, together with work experience as an anesthesiologist, and the whole advent of the Internet of Things allowed me to take the “what if’s” to a new level.
JH: What one thing do you love most about writing?
TE: The people I've met. Going to Thrillerfest (writer’s conference) and interacting with all the wonderfully supportive writers in the world is a privilege and incredibly inspiring.
JH: What’s next for you in the way of writing/publishing?
TE: I plan to start work on expanding a dual-timeline short story I wrote years ago, about the Salem Witch Trials and the possible medical explanation.
Though a physician by training, engineering runs in my blood, and my house.
JH: How can readers contact you?

BIO:
By day, Tammy Euliano, MD is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Florida where she cares for patients and teaches medical students and residents. She's been honored with numerous teaching awards, more than 100,000 views of her YouTube teaching videos, and was featured in a calendar of women inventors (copies available wherever you buy your out-of-date planners). By night, she plays games with her family (now remotely), plays tennis (badly), cuddles her dogs, reads, and writes medical thrillers. In her writing, she is intrigued by ethically blurry topics and enjoys positioning characters on all sides of a debate, each with a well-reasoned position…or humor…or dogs. Her debut novel, Fatal Intent, was published by Oceanview in March 2021 and received great blurbs by Lee Child, Tess Gerritsen and Kathy Reichs, among others.
