How to Build a Sustainable Music Career and Collect All Revenue Streams by EMILY WHITE
Welcome to Books By My Friends, Emily! I love it when we host a nonfiction author because there are always good ideas to share with readers regardless of the subject. Let’s dive in.
JH: What’s the blurb for your book How to Build a Sustainable Music Career and Collect All Revenue Streams?
EW:
"A must-read for anyone launching a career in music or the music industry." -Hypebot
JH: What inspired you to write this book?
EW: I'm a longtime entrepreneur in the music industry and artists kept asking to get coffee and "pick my brain." I realized I was having the same conversations repeatedly and that I could help more people if I wrote down all of the advice I was giving out. Similarly, I've had the privilege of speaking at countless music business conferences. The information in my book is out there, I've just never seen it put in order - from creation to execution or recording to release. Considering the music industry was initially set up decades ago to confuse artists, learning something that is set up to be confusing out of order is incredibly challenging for both the student and educator. This book solves that problem and is an Amazon #1 best-seller and course book around the world. I'm grateful that the book has helped one musician but am forever moved to constantly see artists posting the book to share it with their fellow musicians.
JH: What one thing do you love most about writing?
EW: The gift of the time to do so, when it happens. Carving out that few hours a day that I've set aside sans distractions is pure bliss.
JH: What’s next for you in the way of writing/publishing?
EW: I'm working on the second edition of How to Build a Sustainable Music Career and Collect All Revenue Streams. Season Two of the book's podcast, which is the #1 Music Business podcast globally (https://anchor.fm/sustainablemusiccareer), will be out in 2023 as well.
