I will hunt up Le Guin's book.This is a wonderful essay on how to handle and how to give writing advice. we were all once just starting out. I try to remember that when someone queries me on something in a writer's meeting. Then I go home and send them scads of stuff to further explain.

I think you often learn as much from reading and critiquing the work of others as you do from having your own work critiqued. I like the sandwich approach- start with specific things you really liked, make some suggestions that you think might make the work even stronger, and end with another positive comment. Thanks for a great essay, Joy!
