Thank you, Joy, for the opportunity to tell your readers about my award-winning historical/women's fiction/book club fiction The Emerald Necklace which hit #3 on Amazon for several days.
It’s 1969. Women are fighting for equality. Rosalee, an insecure sculptor, and Fran, a best-selling novelist, have their issues. Will their bitter envy of each other and long-held secrets destroy their tenuous friendship? Or will Jill, Rosalee’s granddaughter, and the story behind her emerald necklace bind them together?
From the first time I read this premise from you a while back, I was intrigued by the story. It sounds like great women's fiction! And you are very welcome, book friend. Write on and happy holidays :)
Lookin’ for Love is the story of a young woman’s search for love and acceptance.
Ava, a young woman rejected by her family, takes a deep dive into the world of international drug smuggling. From Go-Go bars of the 1970s, to the heart of Florida’s drug trade and a Kenyan prison, she shares her tragedies and joys in a compelling first-person narrative. Through her eventual recovery Ava learns the power of forgiveness, faith, and love.
You are so very welcome, Susen. Boy, does this story sound exciting and rewarding. When did it come out? Should we feature it on Books By My Friends soon?
Thank you, Joy! Yes, it’s quite an exciting story, especially since it’s based on real people and real events. The book came out on October 15, 2024, and I’d love to be featured on Books By My Friends.
Three sisters, silent movies, unruly passions, murder. Sensible Rae lies about her age. Gorgeous Lily aims for a rich society husband. Reckless Delia takes off her clothes for the camera. “Betrayal, jealousy, and lovesick suitors power a fast-moving plot with several twists and turns”—Publishers Weekly.
I don't think so, but I'm a little fuzzy too. I think I had The Dangerous Summer of Jesse Turner on Books by My Friends, (November 2023?) but I can't pull up the memory right now. I'll search through the emails.
You are so very welcome, Diana! What a wonderful premise for a book you've written about what sounds like a great read! I love the adjectives for each sister. Brilliant. Happy holidays:)
It is the dawn of the second millennium. Two royal Scottish children are swept away from their families—Macbeth to the perilous royal court of his grandfather, Gruach to the remnants of the goddess-worshiping Picts. Macbeth learns that blood bonds are easily severed while Gruach finds her path only to lose it when she’s summoned back to the patriarchal world. They struggle with gaining and losing power, guided and misguided by prophecy and politics as their paths converge in a fiery bid for royal succession. Upon the Corner of the Moon separates literary legend from reality, immersing readers in a story about the real rulers who changed the face of Scotland. Some legends are true, and the truth sometimes becomes a legend—or a lie. This novel masterfully dovetails the Macbeth legend and the truth without sacrificing either.
Deeply researched and thoughtfully constructed around themes of women's lives and spirituality, the power of storytelling, and the complex politics of northern Europe between the invasions of the Vikings and the Normans, Upon the Corner of the Moon is the first of two books telling the story of real people who’ve been rewritten into emblems of evil.“Steeped in the myth, mystery, politics, and culture of Celtic Scotland, Upon the Corner of the Moon presents the world of the young Lady Macbeth and Macbeth with authenticity, a deft hand, and a poet’s voice,” says Susan Fraser King, author of Lady Macbeth: A Novel.
Hi Valerie! I've been looking forward to this story ever since I read about it in either your newsletter or social media. Love the title. Let's schedule it for a feature in BBMF next year! Congrats on a new book, Val:)
Fruit of the Poisonous Tree - a thriller by Debbie Burke (website debbieburkewriter.com)
When the Japanese-American owner of a Montana cherry orchard is accused of arson and murder, his only hope is investigator Tawny Lindholm and attorney Tillman Rosenbaum. But he's harboring secrets deeper and more tangled than the roots of his cherry trees.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my debut novel, Absorbed, coming out January 6, 2025!
Lifeguard Stacey Chapman is dreaming of love, and drowning in bad decisions.
It's 1996, the summer before senior year, and Stacey attempts MTV cool-girl confidence while flirting with Jessie, a sexy skateboarder she's ogled all year. When Jessie pressures her into sex, Stacey's unprepared and afraid to say no. Too ashamed to confide in her mom or her best friend, Gabe, she conspires with another lifeguard to destroy Jessie's reputation, and in the process they obliterate Stacey's good-girl image. Finding refuge in her art teacher's watercolor workshop, Stacey finally begins to untangle who she has become from the art and music career she really wants. But before summer is over, a botched pool rescue snaps Jessie's spinal cord, and Stacey has to answer for her part in the tragedy.
It is autumn of 1938, in Hitler’s Germany, in the capital city of Berlin, perhaps a month before the devastating anti-Jewish violence of Kristallnacht. Three Jewish boys have received new bicycles — because their family has, with difficulty, arranged to leave Germany, and they will not be allowed to take much cash with them. Two of the boys are experienced bicyclists, but the youngest is less so. On a downtown street, the latter’s lack of skill causes an accident. And the traffic policeman on the scene wears, just visible under his uniform, the brown shirt of a member of Hitler's storm troopers.
What did the policeman do? The answer is known, because the preceding paragraph describes an actual event in the author's family history But why did the policeman make the choice he did? What life did he live that led him to make it? And what happened to him, while the boys and their family escaped, lived, and thrived? This novel imagines possible answers to these questions. In doing so, it takes the reader into the heart of the experience of wartime, and the repercussions of such conflict for years thereafter.
This sounds fascinating, Karen! I love historical fiction with a real life event heart to it. I would love to feature it on a future BBMF. Sound good? When did this publish? You are very welcome, book friend!
